A BIG Giveaway! $150 Worth of Fashion Office Products (closed)

One of my favorite things to do is browse around in a stationery shop.  You can just have the clothing and shoe departments; I'll be in the office supplies aisle at the local grocery/everything store.  There is something about the smell, the feel, the very sight of paper and pencils, ink and organizers that inspire me to write the Great American Novel (or...a grocery list). 

Because of my obsession with all things that have to do with "paper" and "writing" and "organizing" (oh, my!), I am So. Very. Delighted to host this BIG ($150 value) giveaway from Carolina Pad for one of you.

It's Hard to Blog in March...

March here on the Gulf Coast means a full Spring bloom, gardening, baby chicks, and festival after festival.  It's my favorite month, I realized the other day.  I am having the hardest time working with the kids on their schoolwork and doing indoor chores.  The sunshine and blue skies are joining up with the birds and buds to entice me outdoors to play.

It's hard to blog in March, so I might be here a bit less than normal this month.  No worries, Summer is coming and I'll soon be indoors much more often.

Here...I have a chocolate treat for you* to tell you I'm sorry for not posting more...

Okay, actually it's a freebie sample I found today, and it's not from me, it's from Betty Crocker.   Even so, it's a chocolate treat and one from Betty Crocker is nearly as good as one from me, no?

I'm off to get mine.

GIVEAWAY: You Really Do Want These Valentine's Day Cards... (closed)

...because these are not - yawn - simple paper-in-an-envelope cards.  These cards...these Hallmark cards...are made of paper and accompanied by an envelope, but they also play music (which makes me jig, and you will, too) and have a wee little recorder inside where you can record your very own greeting!  They are called Hallmark's Recordable Cards with Music (go here to see the card designs and listen to music samples).

We're giving three (3) of you an assortment of these cards (value: $6.99 each card), shipped just in time for Valentine's Day (provided you email me your mailing address in time).

Thankfully, the recordings may be re-recorded over and over again, since I know her siblings (and I!) will want to chime in on the 10-second greeting, too.  Below is the greeting button,with included (removeable)  instructions. 

When your Valentine opens the card, he or she will hear your greeting followed by a song, which varies by card.  The card above broke out into Do You Love Me (you know, "Do you love me?  Now that I can daaaaaance.  Watch me now!"   Stuck in your head?  Good.  Mine, too). 

Here are the cards that we received from Hallmark (one for a "Grandma," a kitty one possibly for a child or a friend, and one for someone very loved, perhaps a friend or a special man or gal).   The 3 winners will also receive 3 cards each, but they may not be the exact same cards as these...

GIVEAWAY! A Hardcover of National Security Mom

National Security Mom came in my mailbox in December, and within a week I'd read through it, setting aside the other books on my nightstand.  The author, Gina Bennett - get this - was a Senior Counterterrorism Analyst.   Can you imagine?  She knows things we will never know -- secrets that our government keeps from us so the bad guys don't coerce us into tattle-tale-ing. 

Oh, and another thing about Gina Bennett:  She's a mother of five.  Seriously.

GIVEAWAY! A bottle of Welch's Aqua Juice (closed)

We received an unusual thing in the mail the other day.  This time, it wasn't curriculum or books for review/giveway on FreelyEducate.com.  This time, it was ....

...Aqua Juice!  Our kids were way more excited about getting Aqua Juice in the mail than they ever are about books, that's for sure!

Our ballerina, above, has - oh, I don't even know how to label it, because there apparently isn't a label (yet - I think the docs have a lot yet to learn), and I'm adverse to labeling children anyway - but for this post, let's just give her the label of "sugar issues."  Simple sugars (white flour, white sugar, Coke, candy) go straight to her bloodstream, like they would for anyone, but instead of her body being able to handle that without much change, our ballerina gets a sort of sugar high, then a sugar plummet.  She'll feel great and energetic (the sugar "high") then turn white, get shaky, not respond well to us -- you know, that sort of scary thing.

I'm thinking that a lot of you mamas out there know what I'm talking about, or know another child with this.  Which is why I think the doctors will eventually catch up.  What's happening is that our American diet is so sugar-laden that the little bodies get worn out and/or lose tolerance (the docs don't know yet, according to ours). 

Get this:  One in three children born in 2000 will get diabetes, according to the Center for Disease Control (US govt study).  Mamas like us need to pay attention to that kind news from them.

Meanwhile...I am so glad to see so many food companies coming out with healthier alternatives (because we all know that chemical, fake sweeteners are not the answer!).  Welch's is one of those companies making changes.  An 8 oz. glass of their Aqua Juice contains...
